Sony’s newest addition to their super compact camera line, the Sony DSC-S800, features nice f1:2.8-4 optics with a 6x-zoom tele lens, awesome close-focussing capabilities (according to Sony as close as two Millimeter) as well as an 8-Megapixel sensor. Canon releases HR-10 video cam with AVCHD video technology
Starting this August Japanese photo and video giant Canon will be joinig Panasonic and Sony in their latest efforts to promote a new video standard called AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition). Canon’s first camcorder using the high-definition video standard will be called HR-10. The new cam that will be recording digital video clips on MiniDVDs will be featuring a 10x zoom and a 2.7 Megapixel camera for still photos is expeted to be much smaller then competitors in this class. Some Insiders even compare the new Canon cam to Sonys newest super small HDR-CX6 camera.
Low-budget web video: Mustek Mini camcorder for YouTubists

Hollywood wannabies, online video geeks and YouTube freaks, listen up: Taiwanese tech company Mustek just introduced a perfect little mini camcorder for web video fans. The new Mustek DV520T is capable of recording VGA-quality MPEG 4 video at 30 frames per second including sound. Additionaly, the 520T can be used as a digital camera, capturing still shots in a 5 Megapixel resolution. Plus, the DV520T can serve as a digital voice recorder as well, saving voice notes in WAV format. However, the main reason to seriously consider getting one of these mini video machine is the price: The Mustek DV520T retails for only $130.
Nikon: Rebates for DSLR’s and Coolpix
Japanese photo pionier Nikon Corp is now offering a “Buy Both and Save” Mail-in rebate for customers who purchase a DSLR and a Coolpix consumer class digital camera. When bundled together, customers can receive up to $50 back on select Coolpix point-and-shoot models. The offer is valid to June 30, 2007. Read more
Canon Pixma iP90v: Not cheap, but super portable
If you are constanly on the go and must have a tiny inkjet, you’ll be pleased with the Pixma iP90v’s print speeds and quality. The iP90v’s is an upgrade to the Canon iP90 portable ink-jet printer. Both compact printer models are very similar in functionality and are small enough to slip into pretty much any laptop bag, bagpack or suitcase, for printing from practically anywhere. Canon’s closest competition in this niche is according to Cnet the HP Deskjet 460 series. They did not review the product yet, but they are working on it.

Nikon Coolpix S10: Unsharp without Vibration Reduction?

British reviewers of Nikon’s latest Coolpix S10 consumer-class digital camera interestingly say the new S10 has like other current Nikon cam’s trouble getting sharp images in less than perfect light. However, using Nikon’s revolutionary Vibration Reduction (VR) technology to avoid blurry pictures improves the stabilization drastically. According to PhotographyBLOG tester Mark Goldstein, the new Coolpix S10 deliveres better results under similar conditions then the predecessor, the Coolpix S9, which did not feaure the built-in Vibration Reduction (VR) technology.
Panasonic Lumix: Another 12 Megapixel compact camera

Japanese CE giant Panasonic just announced their latest addition to their Lumix digital camera family, the DMC-FX100. The company claims the new Lumix is the world’s first 12.2Mp digital camera with a 28mm wide-angle lens. We just heard a similar claim from Casio following the introduction (see MomentumPhoto News report below) of their first 12.1 Megapixel compact digital camera. Panasonic’s announcement as well as Casio’s step again raise the question, if it make sense to equip a compact digital camera with a (low-quality) 12 Megapixel sensor. Certainly these cameras can deliver large images – but of questionable quality.

Casio claims to have first 12 Megapixel compact camera

Japanase Consumer Electronics giant Casio has released the world’s first 12.1 megapixel compact digital camera. The newest addition to the Casio digital camera family is called Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200 and its resolution is the highest available in any compact digital camera. In 2006 the company released the predecessor to the EX-Z1200, the Exilim Zoom EX-Z1000; back then the first compact digital camera to deliver a 10-megapixel resolution. Read more
