It was just a matter of time that once dominating photo pionier Kodak would join the exclusive 12-megapixel, ISO 3200 clubs for compact cameras in one shot.

Following many recent 12-megapixel camera announcements, Kodak today unveiled its own compact camera of the kind. Besides a 12-megapixel sensor, the new Z1275 camera features a 2.5-inch LCD screen, 5x optical zoom and ISO sensitivity up to 3200 (at 3.1 MP or lower).

Moreover, the Z1275 offers HD video recording at 1280 by 720 pixels. Memory cards are required to be bought separately though, as the camera’s internal memory only holds a couple of minutes of HD video.

The camera’s panorama stitch and smart scene modes are also noteworthy, where the first creates a panorama picture out of three shots and the second automatically selects from the nine available scene modes.

The Kodak Z1275 will be available in August 2007 and retail for $249
