While shopping for a new digital camera these days, you might stumble upon some new models that are touting a “face detection” technology. Several newer genaeration digital cameras such as Fuji’s SLR-styled FinePix S6000fd have face-recognition capabilities, meaning the camera can detect faces in a scene and then automatically focuses (Auto-Focus) and optimizes the exposure (Auto-Exposure -AE). The manufacturer’s call this a ‘revolutionary technology’.
But what’s behind this? Is this simply a new sales pitch and marketing LaLa to boots digital camera sales or is this Technology really useful in a consumer compact digital camera? Popular Mechanics tries to answer these questions …
