Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III Review: Simply a class of its own

canon-eos-1ds-mark-iii-digital-cameraA class of its own, the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III marks another high-end success for Canon. So cool is this camera that it earned the coveted Cnet Editors’ Choice distinction.

The Good: Viewfinder offers 100 percent coverage.Offers a high level of control over all aspects of images. Good body design for faster access to controls. 21.1 megapixels and low noise.

The Bad: Very expensive. Body is heavy. No AF in live view mode. Lack of the ISO button can be annoying.

The Bottomline: The 1Ds Mark III addresses the high-end needs of professional photographers who have lots of money to spend.

Price: Starting at $7,999.99.

Panasonic AG-HMC150 Camcorder: HD performance with simplicity of digital still camera; shoots on SDHC

It took Japanese CE giant a full six years to finally releasing a true HD successor to the popular but aging AG-DVX100. The new AG-HMC150 shares triple CCDs, optical image stabilization, and audio capability with the DVX100, but adds a variety of HD formats including 1080/60i, 1080/30p, and 1080/24p. However, this does not come cheap: The AG-HMC150 costs $6000

The HMC150 is designed to provide enhanced HD production capabilities for video enthusiasts who desire professional features, extended recording capability and the fast workflow. The company has confirmed a basic 13Mbps recording mode but did not give details for the ‘enhanced’ or #higher-level’. Hopefully it will be closer to the AVCHD maximum 24Mbps and show what the format is really capable of. The AG-HMC150 uses standard SDHC cards.
