Sony launched the PMW-EX3, a new model in their XDCAM EX series. This one is an updated version of the Sony PMW-EX1, the first to use Sony’s flash memory card. Same with its predecessor, the EX3, which also uses this memory format.
Revealed yesterday at the NAB Show 2008 in Las Vegas, the PMW-EX3 is packed with the following notable new features: control rings for aperture, zoom and focus; and Time Code and Genlock connections that allow more efficiency in shooting with multi-cameras. Maximum aperture is an impressive f/1.9.
The PMW-EX3 camcorder also comes with optional plug-ins for exporting files to upload to the web or to transfer to professional optical discs. The so-called “Clip Browser Ver.2.0″ software readies EX3 files for DV editing.
The new Sony PMW-EX3 camcorder is available for $13,000 while the MW-EX30 recorder/player unit will be sold for $30,000 when it hits the stores the third quarter 2008.
