Lumix DMC-FX35 Reviewed: Smart cam, smart features

The new Lumix FX35 has a lot to offer, like a new 4.4mm to 17.6mm wide-angle Leica lens (35mm equivalent: 25mm to 100mm), an aperture range from f/2.8 to f/5.6, a 4X optical zoom, and an improved Intelligent Auto (IA) mode. Not bad for a digital camera.
The good: 25mm wide-angle lens. Intelligent LCD. Intelligent Auto mode has been improved. Very little noise at high ISO settings.
The bad: No joystick controller like on other F-series cameras. Small 2.5-inch LCD. No optical viewfinder. Flash underexposes images.
The bottom line: With the latest model in its FX line, Panasonic has added some nice features but also took out its excellent joystick controller. This move lands the camera right back in the middle of the pack of midrange pocket shooters.
Price: Starting at $275.
