Review: FinePix F50fd is downright disappointing

Our dear colleauges at PhotographyBLOG/Engadget just reviewed the latest Fuji FinePix camera, the FinePix F50fd point-and-shoot. The result is crushing: “picture quality is downright disappointing”, says the tech site.

Unfortunately, everybody’s worst fear about the FinePix F50fd seems to be true — according to a recent review over at PhotographyBLOG, anyway. Apparently, stuffing a 12-megapixel sensor into this pocket-friendly digicam wasn’t exactly the most intelligent idea, as reviewers found the picture quality to be downright disappointing. Read more

FujiFilm FinePix Z10fd : The teenager’s venture into great photography

Fruity colors seem to be the hottest thing this season, whether its USB keys, the ever shortening skirts, mobile phones, or well better still, digital cameras. What I’m talking about IS FujiFilm’s trendy tot-cam. Apart from being available in 7 attractive colors for the stylish youngsters, this one also packs in face recognition, auto-red eye correction, a dual-shot mode, xD/SD/SDHC support, and an over-inflated “blog mode” which quickly resizes any image into VGA or QVGA sizes. As if that’s not enough, it also arms kids with the ability to share their snaps with any IrSimple capable infrared device. Cool init? I mean the plethora of options kids have these days, I wonder how I grew up without enjoying all these. Due to launch in September, this one clicks in some 7.2 megapixel capacity. Pretty neat, I think. Kids don’t need to worry about having a camera which whoozes water when clicked. They can seem completely in tune with technology with this made to order camera.

Samsung S85: 8.2 Megapixel plus Intelligent Face Recognition Technology

Are you someone who loves getting clicked? Feel like the prettiest thing on the planet when you’re being shot, but are always unhappy with what the end result of the photo session is? Wondering why you even bothered spending on that photographer? The good news is that you can now stop wondering and get your best pictures clicked just by handing the Samsung S85 to your toddler! No kidding. Getting your best pictures clicked is going to stop seeming like rocket science. At least to me it would. You don’t need to worry about making all those oh-so-technical adjustments Read more

Digital Camera Info just published an interesting and super detailed 15-plus pages review of the Pentax Optio W30. Their conclusion si surprising:
The Pentax W30, simply put, is a fun camera to use. It will likely find a wide audience, eliciting praise from Michael Phelps types to kids wanting to play Mikey from the Goonies. With waterproof, dustproof (and kid-proof) abilities, the Optio W30 functions as an all-around camera that can be transported on land or water. It also includes basic PDA functions such as alarm and calendar. With an array of internal editing, the camera makes it easy to bypass the computer. Read more.

Simply Overpriced: BenQ DC C740i 7 Megapixel cam w/ Pentax lens

BenQ just released a new 7 Megapixel digital camera. The newest addition to the companies compact digital camera line is called DC C740i and features an 3x optical zoom and a pretty good lens (made by Pentax). It also comes with a Vibration reduction mode so pictures do not come out blurry from the camera being shaken. The Down side: With a street price of around $600 C740i is certainly overpriced.

HP touch-screen camera series: Appeals to simplicity lovers

Okay, HP may not be on your list of the most sought-after tech gurus, but in my opinion, it’s definitely re-inventive and a true blue competitor. What I especially love about the company, is their ability to make technology feel unlike rocket science, which many companies like Sony and Acer manage to do with utmost ease! Now of course, it’s not the first one to have introduced touch-screen technology in digital cameras, what with Sony and Toshiba having done that long ago, but the cool thing is that it’s managed to look behind the intricacies and bring a series of cameras that have bigger displays (something I consider a must-have) and are guaranteed compatibility with Windows Vista (remember the Microsoft Newbie that has a great photo-storer software?). Sure, an Olympus or Canon might beat it sore when it comes to market-share (at least of the digicam market), but HP is sure to give them a run for their money! Read more
