Mustek just introduced the ultimate bedside companion, the new PF-E700. Designed to save desk space by integrating several functions into one, the PF-E700 is a versatile convergence of digital photo frame with built-in alarm clock, calendar, indoor temperature gauge and MP3 player.

The PF-E700 offers a high-resolution (480 x 234), seven-inch TFT color LCD to view photos from most available memory cards (SD/SDHC/MMC/MS-Pro DUO/CF), as well as videos in AVI and M-JPEG formats. Unlike similar convergence devices, the PF-E700 does not crowd its dedicated photo screen with time, calendar or temperature digits; instead that illuminated information is reversely displayed on the bottom of the player to maximize space for photography appreciation. Photos can be viewed individually or in auto slideshow mode with multiple transitions on the full screen or in split windows.

Plus: The dual “snooze” alarm clock helps wake the user up alert and aware of the time, temperature and date. The backlight can be selected as continuous, an important advantage in early morning darkness.

The PF-E700 is expected to ship in April with an MSRP of $149.99 (U.S).

Taiwansee hightech company Mustek is addressing the needs of photo, music and movie enthusiats and will launch during CES 2008 the PF-i700, a color 7- inch digital photo frame with an integrated Apple® iPod® docking station that plays iPod files, in addition to those stored on popular memory card formats.

The new PF-i700 has the expanded multimedia capabilities to play all kinds of digital entertainment files on one screen without the cable clutter. Nearly three times the size of the iPod’s screen, the PF-i700’s 7-inch TFT LCD panel boasts 480 x 234 resolution and a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio ideal for playback of movies in MPEG format, Xvid and motion-JPEG formats. The panel is mounted within a high-gloss black bezel with the contemporary aesthetics to fit into any home, office or dorm room. Accentuating the “wow factor” is the panel’s ability to display in both portrait and landscape positions. A removable stand design allows for wall mounting.

The PF- i700 also features stereo speakers plus a headphone jack as well as a card reader for SD, xD, MMC, MemoryStick and MemoryStick Pro cards and a USB 2.0 port for thumb drives or connecting to a PC. The PF-i700 is expected to be available in March 2008 with an MSRP of $129.99.

This is a pretty terrific – but somewhat expensive – idea that needs according to various testers just a bit more refining. The Philips 9FF2M4 Photo Frame looks like any framed photograph but the picture is actually an LCD screen that displays any or all of the 90 or so pictures loaded into the device’s memory or plugged in by way of a memory card. It takes most popular cards.

You can have this operating within minutes – thanks to super easy instructions and intuitive controls comprising three buttons and a joystick, which is easily accessible at the rear. However, the joystick is imprecise and easily flipped to the wrong menu option. The bottomline: This is a beautiful but frame and the perfect gift idea for this holiday season. The sticker price of around $300 is somewhat hefty, but compared to other digital phoro frames out there, this is certainly one of the moste beautiful and technically most advanced on the market.
